My love,

would you still love me

if I was a failure?

If I decided to give up

on all that I aspired

and one day felt that

I was content not chasing

something bigger?

If I decided I loved my home

the way it was -

that I didn’t want things to change anymore,

that I could give it all up

and live a peaceful life

of nothing particularly

exciting,

but enjoying the warmth of the sun

on a summer day?

Would you love me if I put

down my ambitions,

and went on long walks

with slow footsteps

and nothing out of the

ordinary?

Would you love me if I wasn’t

special -

if I stopped trying to live one way,

because I enjoyed

living that of another?

Would you be disappointed

if I didn’t achieve my goals?

Would I have failed you?

Would you still love me as

you do now?
